Remodeling Project Overview

Here is the information about our remodeling project. I will update this post as we find out more information about subcontractors and deal with vendors.

We are using CASE Handyman and Remodeling as the general contractor for our remodel. (We had also considered using Masterpiece Remodeling.) CASE is a national franchise, and we are dealing with the CASE Handyman and Remodeling of Austin franchise, owned by Ed Dudley. On the business/sales side, we deal with Cliff Zoch, who previously owned his own building company here in town (Zoch Custom Homes) and recently started with CASE. Cliff has been our main point of contact and was responsible for doing the initial bidding, writing the contract, and managing the business side of the general contractor relationship.

Our project manager is José Martinez, who seems like a very knowledgeable and nice guy. He is in charge of implementing the designs as we finalize them, as well as scheduling and logistically organizing all the subcontractors. He oversees his own crew which does a lot of the general work, while specialty trades are handled by subcontractors.

Our primary subcontractors
Demolition/Framing/Siding: Jose’s own crew/CASE Austin
Plumbing: Reggie and Barry, Patterson Plumbing
Electrical: Victor McCullough (and his crew Lewis and Omar), CVH Electric
HVAC: Bill Yates, Million Air A/C and Heating

Wood flooring: David Bailey Artisan Floors

Solar tubes: SolarTex

Our main suppliers
Tri-Supply: Jeld-Wen windows, door(s), trim
Morrison Supply Company: plumbing fixtures
Austin Countertops: countertop
TileWorks Austin: floor tiles, kitchen backsplash, tub/shower surround
Wilson Appliance: BlueStar range cooktop, vent hood

Green Glue: Soundproofing compound in master bedroom exterior walls
CSN Lighting: pendant lights, master bath vanity light
Fashion Floors was very helpful in our hardwood flooring search, although we did not buy from them.
City Lights and Lighting, Inc. were very helpful resources during our lighting search.
