Shed roof go bye-bye

Today was the first day of work this week (since yesterday was Memorial Day), and the workers had finished taking down all the remaining roof over the kitchen and breakfast nook. This is such a shocking change to the house… it’s hard to describe how it feels to stand in your kitchen and look up at the trees and open sky:

There is a bunch of rubble in the kitchen floor, and the above photo shows what appears to be original soffits with decorative moulding.

After consultation with the framing inspector, Jose and the crew deemed it safe to remove the big beam that used to spam across the kitchen:

They also left the mudroom intact, partly because it forms the support for the breezeway roof structure, and partly because they don’t need it removed in order to frame up the new exterior walls and roof.
